May 5th: Islands Hopping - The Pakleni Island, Hvar & Brac

What a fantastic day!  Visiting the Dalmatian Islands of Palmizana (Pakleni Islands), Hvar & Brac by private speed boats!
The day dawned wet & chilly.  So at our arranged meeting time of 8:00am it was decided that we'd delay our departure until 10:00am & modify our schedule a little to try to avoid the worst weather.  And the plan worked perfectly.
At 10:00am we walked the short distance to the harbor, met our boat crews, & boarded our two high speed boats.  Soon, kitted-out in warm green jackets we were speeding out into the Adriatic to our first destination, the island of Palmizana, one of the Pakleni - or Devil - Islands.
We had a little over an hour to explore this tiny island - plenty of time to cross to the so-called Blue Lagoon, to collect sea glass, & even for a few brave souls to take a swim.
From Palmizana it was just a short 10-15 minute ride across to the island of Hvar & it's 'capital' Hvar Town.  On the waterfront we met our local guide & took a one hour tour of the town, learning about its history, culture, architecture, etc before having free time for lunch.
A longer ride took us to the neighboring island of Brac next, stopping to view the wind & kite surfers off the famous beach of Zlatni Rat before cruising into Bol for an hour's stop.
The ride back to Split this afternoon was an adrenaline-charged rollercoaster - bumpy, windswept, slightly nerve-wracking at times, but a memorable experience for sure.  Our captains stopped at one point to give us a break from the bumpy ride & show us a Cold War-era submarine hideout carved into the cliffs.
Back in Split we had a free evening before our departure inland tomorrow morning.
